Ilona builds World Championship momentum with stellar international campaign, breaks 14m and is 2nd Belgian of all time.

Ilona has been on a mission—and it’s paying off. In her push to qualify for the senior World Championships in Tokyo this September, the Belgian triple jumper has strung together a series of outstanding performances across international competitions.

Her tour began in Zagreb, where she took the gold with a solid 13.84 meters. That was followed by a silver medal in Dakar, thanks to a 13.87-meter leap. Ilona then claimed back-to-back gold medals, first at the Filothei Women’s Gala in Athens with 13.98 meters, and most recently in Geneva, where she broke the 14-meter barrier for the first time this season with a superb 14.06.

These marks don’t just boost her world ranking—they solidify her place in Belgian athletics history. Ilona now holds the second-best performances ever by a Belgian triple jumper, behind national record holder Svetlana Bolshakova.

With form, confidence, and consistency all on her side, Ilona is well on track for a ticket to Tokyo—and perhaps she will make even more history before the season is done.
