Strong season opener from Lucca and Max
The indoor competition season kicked off this weekend for Lucca Goossens and Max Schymkowitz, while Ilona Masson and Florence Amon will begin their indoor campaigns a little later. Lucca (U23) opened his season in the triple jump at the Allianz Championnats LBFA Toutes Catégories in Louvain-la-Neuve, while Max (U20) competed in the long jump at the ALLIANZ Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen Alle Categorieën. Both athletes delivered strong performances, with Lucca claiming gold and Max taking silver in their respective competitions.

Lucca’s result was particularly impressive given the circumstances. Only a few days earlier, on Wednesday, he was still confined to bed with fever due to a viral infection. Although his winning jump was below his usual performance level, it was enough to secure first place and mark a successful — and resilient — start to his indoor season.
Max showed clear progression in the long jump. He improved his summer personal best of 7.10 m twice, first jumping 7.24 m and then extending that to 7.34 m. The latter earned him silver, just a few centimetres behind the winner — an athlete with more than ten years of competitive experience. Despite the podium finish, Max was left slightly unsatisfied.
“I couldn’t get the speed I wanted,” Max said afterwards. “I know I can go further.”
With gold for Lucca and silver for Max, the indoor season is off to a strong start for Beyond the Board. The message is clear: the competitors have been warned — this season is only just beginning.
