Ilona comes fourth in the FISU World University Summer Games
Ilona delivered a composed and confident performance at the FISU World University Summer Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, finishing fourth in the triple jump final with a best leap of 13.73m. It was her debut at a major international championship as an individual athlete, and she rose to the occasion in a fiercely competitive field—just missing out on a spot on the podium.
Reflecting on the experience, Ilona shared a mix of emotions:
“At first, I was a little disappointed to finish just off the podium, because I knew a medal was within reach. But it’s been an intense start to the season, with a lot of competitions abroad and a good deal of fatigue. I definitely felt that this weekend—but I gave it everything I had.”
Despite the initial disappointment, pride shines through in her perspective:
“Looking back, I’m proud of this fourth place at a global competition and proud to have represented Belgium once again. It was such a unique experience, being surrounded by athletes from 104 different nations.”
The Games mark another high point in what’s already been a standout season for Ilona.
“It was another great moment in an already incredible season… and it’s not over yet! There are still plenty of exciting meets ahead.”
