Gold and Bronze for Lucca Goossens at the Belgian U20 Championships in Nivelles
The Belgian U20 Championships in Nivelles brought another remarkable chapter to Lucca Goossens’ season. The schedule was far from ideal: the triple jump, his main discipline, was set at exactly the same time as the high jump, which he continues to practice out of pure love for the sport.
But Lucca being Lucca, he refused to choose. On what was probably the last really hot day of the year, he literally ran between the sandpit and the high jump mat.

First, he focused on the high jump, where he cleared enough to secure the bronze medal. Once that was safe, he retired from the competition to turn his attention fully to the triple jump.
And Lucca being Lucca, he did what he always does: he delivered. Even though the conditions left him more than a meter below his personal best, he still claimed the gold medal in the triple jump — the final gold of what has been an emotional roller-coaster of a season.
This year, Lucca narrowly missed out on the European Championships, but he has once again proven his resilience, versatility, and class. We have written before about his ability to overcome setbacks and shine in difficult circumstances. Today in Nivelles, he reminded us all once more why he is such a special athlete.
We look forward with great anticipation to his progression in the years to come.
