Controlled Test Under Pressure at the Open Belgian Student Championships

The Open Belgian Student Championships served exactly the purpose we intended: a high-quality competitive rehearsal ahead of the upcoming Belgian Championships.

With a field that closely mirrored what we can expect at nationals, the competition provided the right level of pressure without being a peak target. For our athletes, this was not about chasing distances — it was about execution, rhythm and testing progress in a competitive environment.

Building Back, Step by Step

For Ilona, this competition was another important step in her return from a long injury lay-off. She is still firmly in her build-up phase, and one of the key focuses at the moment is progressively extending her run-up. With each competition, the approach distance increases — carefully and deliberately.

She claimed victory in the triple jump, but more importantly, she executed controlled jumps with growing confidence and stability. The process remains the priority.

Lucca approached the competition as a form test under realistic championship conditions. With a strong national field present, this was an ideal opportunity to sharpen competitive focus. He secured the win in the triple jump, delivering composed series and solid technical consistency.

Max, still one of the youngest in the field, competed in the long jump against what was essentially a Belgian Championship-level line-up. He finished second, confirming that he belongs at the front of the national field. The objective here was rhythm, accuracy on the board and handling pressure — all important building blocks ahead of nationals.

All three athletes remained well short of the distances they are currently producing in training. But we are not yet in peak phase, and the taper toward the Belgian Championships is still to come.
